The tree

Given, earned, and alive.

There is a tree on the front of this site. It is not a logo — it is a picture of a business, and every part of it means something. This is what.

What you are given

The roots are not earned.

Everyone has them from the first day. A storefront, orders, the books, the clock, a phone line that answers — the whole thing is under a business before it has done anything at all. That is not a reward for getting somewhere. That is what you are paying for, and it is there on the morning you arrive.

Day one. Nothing above ground yet, and everything already underneath.

What you build

The tree is never redrawn.

It only puts out more of itself. Every order taken, every hour clocked, every invoice filed — the same tree, further along. Nothing here is a template you replace with a bigger one when you outgrow it, because you do not outgrow a thing that grows.

Months in. The canopy fills; the roots have not moved.

What it shows

Life is what is moving through it.

A tree with nothing rising in it is bare, and it says so. Orders being made, work in hand, money coming through — that is the light in the branches, and it is drawn from what is really happening rather than from anything I would like it to look like. Nothing on this page is decoration. Every mark on the tree is a number.

A year in, on a busy day. Every bough that is there was earned.

And the rest of it

Birds and butterflies come later.

There are things on that tree this page has not explained. They are earning their meaning in something I am still building. When it is ready, it will be here.
